Argentina Discovery Case: A curated selection of wines from north to south

The Argentinian Discovery Case includes a lovely, fresh Torrontés from Salta (2000m to 3000m), a zesty and crisp white wine, perfect for spring.

This is followed by a Pinot Noir from Patagonia, Argentina’s southernmost wine region, where strong winds pose a challenge. Otronia has smartly addressed this by planting a perimeter of tall trees to protect the vines, resulting in wines of exceptional quality and elegance.

The case also features a Bordeaux-style blend from Rutini, made with 50% Cabernet Sauvignon from Gualtallary and 50% Malbec from La Consulta. This wine is aged for 12 months in French and American oak barrels, creating a balanced and elegant red crafted by Mariano Di Paola.

To highlight one of Argentina’s most important grape varieties, we included a 100% Cabernet Sauvignon. This is the Zuccardi Q Cabernet Sauvignon by Sebastián Zuccardi, sourced from La Consulta (1100m) and Gualtallary (1250m), in the south and north of the Uco Valley. It is aged for 12 months in French oak barrels. Zuccardi was also awarded Best Vineyard in the World in 2022.

Next, we introduce one of Argentina’s rising stars: Cabernet Franc. This 100% Cabernet Franc comes from Gualtallary (1250m), in the northern Uco Valley, known for its calcareous soils. Walter Bressia ferments and ages this wine in large oak foudres (5,000-litre casks), allowing for gentle ageing and preserving the grape’s full expression.

Last but not least, no Argentinian selection would be complete without a 100% Malbec. For this, we chose a wine from Catena Zapata, sourced from their Lunlunta vineyards (950m). The rich soils in this area produce a beautifully floral and expressive Malbec, aged for 12 months in French oak barrels.
