About the Winery
In 1902, the visionary Nicola Catena laid the foundation for Bodega Catena Zapata, marking the genesis of exceptional Malbec vineyards in the heart of Mendoza, Argentina. Today, this family-owned estate stands as a beacon of innovation and quality. Under the stewardship of Nicolás Catena Zapata since the 1960s, the winery embarked on a transformational journey. Drawing inspiration from Napa Valley's winemaking methods and unearthing high-altitude terroirs, Nicolás has unveiled the epitome of grape variety expression.
Revered as "South America’s Grand Cru", Bodega Catena Zapata has firmly established itself as a global benchmark, consistently celebrated by wine connoisseurs for the sophistication and grace of its Argentinian creations.
The Adrianna Vineyard River Malbec 2018 is a jewel from Mendoza. This wine originates from a unique plot in the Adrianna vineyard. Once a riverbed, this plot boasts white pebbles, reminiscent of those in Châteauneuf-du-Pape. Thanks to these stones, the area enjoys stellar drainage and temperature regulation — soaking up the sun's heat and releasing it after sunset.
Harnessing the power of indigenous yeasts, fermentations occur in barrels, with temperatures ranging from 25 to 30°C over 10-15 days. To bring out its best, the wine is then aged for 20 months in French oak barrels, tailored to the vintage's character.
Composition: 100% Malbec.
With the unique nuances of the River terroir, the 2018 Adrianna Vineyard River Malbec shines through as a fragrant, robust, and lavish wine. While it's delightful when young, it also boasts an aging potential spanning decades. This 2018 iteration reveals aromas of crushed berries, blossoms, liquorice, and black tea, complemented by a velvety texture, delicate tannins, and a lingering finish.
This Malbec is a perfect companion to red meats and an array of cheeses.
To savor its full essence, serve at a temperature of 16°C to 18°C.
